Swing and joiking

A Sami family from Norway around 1900

Chicago Daily Tribune, August 25, 1937
I found this interesting and somehow funny article in an old Chicago Daily Tribune's issue. It was published on August 25, 1937. During summer 1937 there was a group of American explorers visiting Swedish Lapland. This Merwin-Haverlee expedition "penetrated deep into the frozen north to study the habits of the nomadic Lapps".

What did they found there?
Arnold Haverlee, leader of the expedition, seems to be fallen in love with Laplander's "joiking" and he had found similarities with "swing":
It may be "swing" in 1937 in America, but it has been "joiking" among the Laplanders for many centuries.
